Amanda Jane Pritchard has been writing – and taking risks – her whole life…
Since graduating with an Arts & Commerce degree in 2002, she’s been telling other people’s stories, cutting her teeth as a publicist at Penguin Books then in the same capacity at Brown Brothers Winery, the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, Foster’s Group, and for the Lord Mayor and City of Adelaide in Australia, at the same time maintaining a career as a freelance writer.
After working in the corporate and government world, Amanda took her own path. She made wine in McLaren Vale, ran a cooperative platform for independent winemakers – Winemakers without Borders – producing over 80 events Australia wide and established the Adelaide Food & Wine Festival.
In 2014/15, Amanda took a gap year and travelled to the United Kingdom and across Europe.
Upon returning to Australia, Amanda decided it was time to embark on a career as a writer, director and performer.
In 2017 Amanda wrote, directed, produced and performed in her debut play – Swipe Left for Love – to rave reviews at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Her second play, Two Bad Dates & Two Broken Noses, an adaptation from Swipe Left for Love played to packed audiences in the 2017 Melbourne Fringe Festival.
In 2018 Amanda took the plunge into stand up comedy, performing at various open mic nights on a brief trip to London. Buoyed by the enthusiastic response, she wrote and performed her first stand up music show “All the Dumb Things” in The Bordello Theatre in the attic of a brothel in Melbourne, with musician Wally Howlett on guitar.
The pair toured this show successfully in Melbourne, Sydney, London and Edinburgh as part of Camden and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, August 2018.
Amanda’s new show “Google: Amanda Jane Dildo” plays London and Edinburgh in July and August 2019 featuring Josh Shield on guitar.
Amanda’s project management skills, entrepreneurial spirit and creative energy have seen a slowly-but-sure career transition to becoming a playwright, performer, director and producer.
That’s the glossy and serious version.
